  • Risk and Compliance Manager

    Reporting to Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

    Location: London (Euston)

    Monday to Friday 9-5 (35 hours)

    What you’ll be doing

    The role serves as Emeria UK's lead subject matter expert for risk management, regulatory compliance, business integrity matters and governance.

    Reporting to the Head of ESG, the role is responsible for the implementation and continuous improvement of Emeria UK's compliance, risk management and governance frameworks. The role will support the business in identifying, assessing and managing risk, embedding a culture of compliance and ethical conduct, and ensuring appropriate governance arrangements are in place to support strategic objectives. The role will work collaboratively across all operating brands and functions to strengthen organisational resilience, regulatory compliance and risk-informed decision making.

    Risk Management

    • Lead, implement and continuous enhancement of Emeria UK's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
    • Ensure risks are effectively identified, assessed, monitored and managed across Emeria UK.
    • Maintain oversight of Emeria UK's overall risk profile and provide regular reporting, insights and recommendations to senior leadership and governance forums.
    • Promote a strong risk management culture and embed risk-based decision making across all operating brands and functions.
    • Monitor emerging external risks and industry developments that may impact the business.

    Compliance

    • Lead the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of Emeria UK's Compliance Framework.
    • Ensure appropriate policies, procedures and controls are in place to support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and internal requirements.
    • Provide expert advice on regulatory compliance, business ethics, anti financial crime, anti bribery and corruption, data protection and responsible business conduct.
    • Lead regulatory horizon scanning, identifying and assessing legislative and regulatory developments that my impact the business.
    • Support the management of compliance, integrity and conduct risks across the value chain, including suppliers, contractors and business partners.
    • Provide oversight and support to designated compliance function holders, including the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), Data Protection Officer (DPO) and other regulatory appointments and undertake such responsibilities where formally assigned.

    Governance and Assurance

    • Own and continuously improve Emeria UK's Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Framework, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure governance arrangements remain aligned to legal, regulatory and business requirements.
    • Provide oversight of policy governance, internal control effectiveness and assurance activities across the organisation.
    • Prepare and present governance, risk and compliance reporting to Executive Leadership, Board and relevant governance committees.
    • Partner with the ESG stakeholders to oversee sustainability-related risks and requirements, including modern slavery, human rights, responsible business conduct and due diligence.
    • Develop and oversee a risk-based compliance monitoring and assurance programme to assess the effectiveness of controls, identify gaps and drive continuous improvement.
    Experience
    • Significant experience developing and implementing risk, compliance and governance frameworks within a complex and regulated environment.
    • Demonstrable experience managing enterprise risk programmes and compliance monitoring activities.
    • Experience of leading business change, transformation or framework implementation initiatives.
    • Experience investigating compliance breaches and delivering remediation programmes.
    • Experience managing external regulators, auditors and assurance providers.
    • Experience within residential property, real estate, financial services or another highly regulated sector would be advantageous
    • Understanding of UK regulatory requirements and emerging regulatory developments.
    • Knowledge of anti-money laundering, fraud prevention, bribery and corruption controls.
    • Understanding of risk management standards and frameworks, including ISO 31000 or equivalent.
    • Strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
    • Ability to translate complex regulatory and risk issues into practical business actions.
    • Strong leadership and influencing skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
    • Ability to build trusted relationships across functions and operating companies.
    • Self-motivated, resilient and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment.
    • Proficient in the use of technology, reporting tools and data-driven risk management approaches.
    Qualifications
    • Degree educated or equivalent professional experience.
    • Relevant professional qualification desirable (IRM, ICA, CISI, CIMA, ICAEW, ACCA, ICSA/CGI, CCEP, GDPR Practitioner or equivalent).
    • Risk, compliance, governance or audit certification desirable.
